Ramadan is predicted to start on 1st August, resulting in many organisations in Qatar as with those in other Islamic countries; placing on hold much of their new hiring decisions until this very special time for those of the Islamic faith draws to a close.
With an increase in gas exports and a record GDP growth of 18.5% in 2010; Qatar has extensive planned investment in infrastructure projects with many organizations looking to hire in specialist engineering and construction personnel from across the globe
Ikram Rabbani, Managing Consultant at Wilde Recruitment responsible for Middle East operations explains: “Ramadan is a very special time for those of the Muslim faith but can be a frustrating time for those awaiting news on an offer of employment. The month of August also sees many senior expats taking extended holidays so as to escape the heat which also can compound delays”.
“We always stress to our candidates not to worry as a delay on hiring decisions is usual at this time and things tend too change rapidly when Ramadan draws to an end”.
For those considering the fantastic work and career opportunities Qatar can offer; here is a little bit of background on Ramadan
Ramadan or Zakat: Purification and Growth.
Within the Islamic faith one of the most important principles is that all things belong to God, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust.
Throughout the month of Zakat, also known as Ramadan, Muslims abstain from drinking, eating and indulging in sensual pleasures from sunrise until sunset. Their possessions are purified by setting aside a proportion for those in need, and, like the pruning of plants, this cutting back balances and encourages new growth.
This year throughout Ramadan, Qatar will fulfill their “Zakat” through charitable donations. It is has been reported that a Qatari foundation will donate 16 million Qatari riyals ($4.4 million) on charity work in Qatar and abroad during Ramadan.
