Case Study 1: UK Business Development Manager
Client Overview
A global provider of engineering, procurement, construction and consultancy services to clients in the energy, chemicals and oil & gas sectors. A Fortune 500 listed company, with global headquarters in the USA, employing approximately 28,000 people at its offices spanning 10 global locations.
The Vacancy
UK Business Development Manager to develop business within the Power Generation sector.
Brief / Search
To assist in the identification and recruitment of a Business Development Manager with a minimum of 10 years experience in senior commercial roleâ??s with companies operating within Heavy Engineering ideally on major projects in the Oil & Gas and Power Generation sectors.
The client had identified that candidates with the required technical and commercial pedigree were not available on either internet based job boards or via the clientâ??s recruitment agency PSL.
After discussion the following points were considered as important to the success of the recruitment exercise: 1. It was agreed that it was essential that the successful candidate would have a solid background in a multi disciplined engineering projects based environment. 2. It was agreed that turn around time from identification of a suitable candidate to interview was to be closely managed as the decision to hire was to be a joint decision by both the MD of the UK operation and the VP of the global group who was only available in the UK for short periods. 3. It was agreed that the geographical search be winded as the client felt that the UK office location away from the main areas of engineering had increased their difficulty in recruiting the calibre of person required.
Solution
We undertook a pro-active, direct and targeted approach in a widened geographical area. Drawing on our specialist knowledge of the Technical Engineering market, target companies were highlighted whose operations were comparable to our clients. Intelligence gathered enabled us to draw up a shortlist of potentially suitable professionals.
After an intensive period of networking we presented our client with a short list of suitable candidates. This subsequently resulted in the client interviewing and offering one candidate who was located within only 15 miles of their office location.
Candidate /Client Management
Wilde Recruitment Limited managed the pre and post interview briefing / debriefing and commercial negotiations with both the client and candidate resulting in a positive outcome for both.
