The Role:
As Construction Planning Manager you will be engaged on a major programme of works to turn the Devonport Royal Dockyard, Western Europe’s largest naval base; into, the naval base and dockyard of the future, able to support the Royal Navy’s future surface and submarine fleets. 

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme including Astute and Dreadnought class.

Duties and responsibilities will include: 
As the Construction Planning Engineer/Manager: you will support Project Managers in the delivery of projects by providing a high-level planning service for the preparation of project plans, producing baseline scheduled tasks, resource profiles and financial models. 
You will be responsible for the provision of fully resourced programmes, the production of resource histograms, resource level programmes, understanding and communicating the effect on programme schedules to project teams 
Additionally;
Prepare robust tender and contract programmes 
Act as mentor to Junior Planning members to assist in their personal development 
Include appropriate financial data in the programme to produce a project cost/time distribution profile and communicate the results to the project team 
Display and analyse the project Critical Path and advise the project team of the results and any appropriate corrective action 
Produce project reports/data directly from the planning software arranging the data to align with the company accounting software 
Understand and report on project using Earned Value Analysis techniques and interpret/communicate the results and any corrective action to the project team 
Produce programmes that satisfy contractual requirements Manage a portfolio of project programmes and supporting Planning Engineers/Junior Planning Engineers including supervision and checking of work

The Candidate:
You will be an experienced Construction Planner with experience of leading/managing a team including mentoring and providing guidance to Junior members of the Planning team
You will have experience of working with Project Managers to deliver successfully packages of work on major multi-disciplined projects. 
You will have Planning experience in a project-based engineering environment using Primavera planning software. Project planning and change management for small/medium/large sized projects 
You will have experience of supervising junior members of a planning team. 
Worked in a tender planning environment.
Note: you will ideally hold current SC level clearance, however, candidate who have the ability to obtain SC level clearance within a short period of time will be considered.
