The Role: 
The Department of Investment and Innovation seeks a specialist Business Manager (Advanced Manufacturing) to work within an Investment Group (IG) responsible for encouraging Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the UK. The group works with overseas companies in their country of origin and in the UK to provide advice and support to make their investment decision and build long term relationships with the most important companies to the UK. 
As Business Manager (Advanced Manufacturing) you will be a member of a new team of specialists working across the North to drive foreign direct investment into the region. The team’s goal is to support the wider rebalancing of the UK economy by attracting high-value (capital investment projects from around the world that align with the primary economic capabilities of the North. 
As Business Manager you will lead on the Advanced Manufacturing sectors. You will work closely with groups local partners’ team, the global value chain team and the existing sector team within a target driven environment to bring in additional business to the North. 

The Candidate: 
You will be qualified to degree level and be a member of a professional body. 
In addition you will have an excellent understanding of the Advanced Manufacturing sectors, including Automotive, Aerospace, Space & satellite manufacture, Marine engineering, Rail, Chemicals, as well as the underpinning engineering supply chain across all regions of the North and effectively sell these strengths to firms seeking to establish or grow a long-term UK business presence. 
You will have the ability to develop new and old networks, to source new prospects and drive existing prospects along the pipeline through active projects to FDI wins in the North. 
You will have minimum of 5 years’ experience of working across the engineering, auto, aerospace or technical consulting sectors in the North with a well-developed network of contacts, good commercial judgement and customer facing/commercial experience, and understanding of the local organisations involved in (trade and) investment and their priorities.  
You will have the ability to quickly understand and articulate the UK and the North’s "offer" to Investors and will have the ability to work alongside UKTI and local northern networks, adding specialist value to their work, and up skilling their capability to win more High Value businesses themselves.
Experience at building relationships at the highest level will be needed as will expertise in balancing the complex asks of numerous stakeholders with an interest in FDI in the north. 
You will have a willingness to travel regularly, both around UK and internationally.
