Overview:
Wilde Recruitment Ltd are working along side Babcock in order to recruit a Construction Safety Practitioner to work on a 6 month contract at Devonport.
As a Construction Safety Practitioner your duties and responsibilities will include:
As directed by the MIP SRC Lead Construction Manager and SHE Lead for MIP, provide Health and Safety Management support at Babcock/DRDL Devonport at site level, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance and site health & safety policies/ procedures/standards

Using the sound knowledge and experience of industry construction practices influence safe working practice and controls. Work with all operatives at site level to influence safe working behaviours on a day to day basis.

In conjunction with the Construction Specialist Practitioner assist in the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of projects and their performance, by enhancing practical SHEF delivery.

Provide support to the Babcock Project Management/Principal Contractor teams with specific specialist knowledge and advice to allow them to embed health and safety practices in to projects

Oversee day to day onsite construction activities from a health and safety point of view, e.g. complete inductions, toolbox talks, onsite walk through of safe systems of work, carry out, and report on, scheduled and unscheduled active monitoring checks and inspections to ensure compliance with safety health environmental and fire policies/procedures/standards.

Where required deputise to the Construction Specialist Practitioner and work as a team to ensure positive SHEF culture and behaviours are embedded into project objectives for the short, medium and long term.

Construction Safety Supervisor principal tasks and responsibilities are:
To proactively support in the implementation of key elements of Site Safety initiatives and to proactively manage and reduce construction health and safety risks.
Assist the Senior Construction Specialist Practitioner in your area with onsite SHEF construction operations delivery implementation.
Implementation of UK Legislation and Company Construction SHEFQ standards, ensuring that assessment and management of risks is carried out to lead to safe working attitudes and practices.
Provision of competent professional construction health and safety advice at project level.
Undertake site Inductions as required for the project on a weekly basis
Also conduct DNA testing where required for contractors in line with MIP Policy.
Undertake construction project workplace inspections weekly to identify hazards, determine ways of reducing risks, ensure adherence to risk assessment and best practice. Feedback this information to the project teams and the business by defined routes for action and closure.
As required participate in the SHE site inspection /audit program including the management of corrective and preventive actions.
Provide active onsite monitoring – by both scheduled and unscheduled health checks and inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety policies/processes/standards.
From time to time in relation to projects, carry out investigation of accidents, incidents and cases of ill health to identify root cause and ensure suitable and sufficient corrective and preventative action is captured in line with management system process.
Understand and utilise the synergi reporting of incident /accidents site process, and actively look to close out events and embed the learning in the project teams.
Undertake reviews of Contractor RAMS and documentation and advise Project Management on its suitability and alignment with site project requirements as part of SHEF team deliverables.
Represent department as required at committees / meetings providing relevant input and maximising shared learning opportunities.
Communicate as required with other identified stake holders on an as and when basis.
Support implementation of SHE Improvement implementation.
Keep up to date with current health and safety legislation and best practice.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Academic:
Minimum HNC or Equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Construction NEBOSH Cert or BSC Diploma, and courses in specific high risk activities such as confined spaces useful. Must have SMSTS or SSSTS qualification in date.
CSCS card holder for Site Supervisor.
Examples of Membership include: The Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH), ROSPA, Construction Group memberships, affiliations to engineering groups such as ICE.
Desirable: Scaffold Inspection TWC, Confined Spaces, Asbestos Awareness training qualification. Permit control understanding, Lifting operations and high energy systems. If these are not already achieved must be working towards.

Experience
Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the field of Construction supported by Health and Safety Management.
