Mechanical Design Engineer – Battery Power Systems: Permanent, Thurso, Northern Scotland, Salary: £50k plus benefits and relocation allowance

Our client is located in a stunning part of the world – Thurso in the county of Caithness, Northern Scotland. Well known for its outstanding natural beauty and unique way of life, relocating to this area will perfectly suit people with a love of the outdoors and a more relaxed place of life.

The client is looking for two engineers who will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies for power electronics, battery and charger products. 

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to all phases of the product lifecycle from initial concept through design, development, verification and through-life support.

 

Duties will involve:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in power electronics, batteries/cells and chargers you will be responsible for;

• Mechanical and Electronic Assembly design 

• Thermal, Shock and Vibration Design and Simulation using SolidWorks 

• DfX (manufacturability, test, cost etc) 

• Design for EMC 

• Management of prototypes and pre-production builds 

• Design documentation 

• Reliability Engineering (FMEA and MTBF analysis etc)

 

You will have proven ability to work in small multi-functional project team (including electronics, software and qualification engineers), experience of the full lifecycle of mechanical product development and an honours degree in a relevant engineering subject (master’s degree preferred). Also;

• Experience in the design of batteries, chargers or power supplies 

• 3D CAD modelling

• Thermal Management of Electronics enclosures, heat exchangers, (air to air, air to water etc)

• Experience of designing various components including plastics, sheet metal, injections moulding and die castings.
