The Client / Role:

Our client is seeking an Operations Integration Manager to be based at Western Europe’s largest naval base.

You will join a team engaged on the delivery of a significant programme of infrastructure investment on the Devonport Royal Dockyard site so as to support the MOD’s submarine programme over the next 40 years. As part of programme a new ‘Major Infrastructure Projects’ Business Unit is being developed to drive the development of Devonport’s Infrastructure to support the future needs of the MoD.  

The MIP Business Unit is an enduring capability and there will be a wide range of further infrastructure projects to come. The Business Unit will be working closely with the BUs responsible for maintaining the existing infrastructure and with the MoD to determine what its long-term needs are.

The Devonport Facility comprises 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including the Astute and Dreadnought classes.

Duties may include:
As Operations Integration Manager you will be responsible for articulating how the design packages will deliver the capability functions and the capture of the design concepts within an overall facility layout by interfacing with the discipline leads and users.

In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Co-ordination of the operational aspects of the system designs into an overall facility operational concept to demonstrate functional capability
  • Co-ordination and design of the spatial layout and process management of facility by integration of the system designs into an overall facility layout
  • Liaison with the UAG Lead / Engineer to ensure operational aspects of the system and facility designs is understood and accepted
  • ensuring all staff are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment

The Candidate: 
You will be an experienced senior discipline engineer, qualified to HND/Degree level; preferably, a Chartered Engineer, registered with the Engineering Council. You will have worked at a senior level such as Engineering Manager or Senior Project Manager.

You will have the relevant knowledge and skills required; for, the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle ideally gained on projects within the Defence or Nuclear sectors.

You will have a sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.  

You will have sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience.  

You will have a good understanding of standard procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements, and the ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures. 

Submarine/Ships maintenance production engineering experience in a dockyard environment is desirable.  

A knowledge of process optimisation and human interface management;

Experience of developing Concept of Operations (CONOPs) / procedure management information.

You will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Due to the nature of the projects current SC Level - Security Clearance or have the ability to obtain is essential for the role.
