Principal Engineer

Principal Engineer / Systems Eng - Plymouth - Duration 6 months - Rate c£55/hr umb.

Overview:
Wilde Recruitment Ltd are working along side Babcock Naval Marine in order to recruit a Principal Engineer, to work on a 6 month contract.
As a Principal Engineer your responsibilities and duties will include:
10 Dock Operations & Integration Manager in respect of the development of the overall Facility design.
Other Engineering Leads (internal and external to 10 Dock Project including other project Operations & Integration Managers) – to ensure that the design of all systems adequately interface with each other and that meetings are held to resolve conflicts / clashes. Suggested means: BIM clash management and Interface Management Processes.
User Acceptance Group (UAG), extended UAG (XUAG) – demonstration that the designed systems when integrated will meet the functional User Requirements.  Suggested means by Facility Activity Review (FAR) process.
Project / Package Manager – to communicate on project deliverables to scope, schedule and cost. Raise any technical issues that may have an effect on overall project delivery
Design Authority (DA) (Design & Safety Manager) – to advise on technical governance aspects of deliverables to ensure that quality is of required standard. 
Engineering Services Technical Authority (ES TA) – to attain information on current systems, learning from experience, Dockyard best practice etc.
Health & Safety Lead – to participate in management of conventional Health & Safety hazards.  Suggested methods – contribution to and update of project Design Risk Register(s) and mitigation plans.
Environmental Lead – to participate in management of environmental risks.  Suggested methods – contribution to and update of project Environmental Risk Register(s) and mitigation plans.
Submarine Operations Manager – participate in production of facility element of CONOPs documentation.

Sound understanding and application of relevant:
Industry legislation
Industry Codes and Standards
Design Engineering Practices 
Design Management (incl. Systems Engineering), planning and budgetary control
CDM Process Training
Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements
Submarine maintenance production engineering experience in a Dockyard environment; (Preferable).
Knowledge of process optimisation and human interface management; (Essential).
Experience of developing Concept of Operations (CONOPs) / procedure management information; 

The post holder must:
Be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle;
Provide expert advice to the sub-contracted design houses to enable them to develop an integrated design;
Have a sound understanding of construction design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements;
Experience of working in BIM environments.
Have a sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience;
Have a sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM), Environmental and Quality requirements, and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures;
Have a working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications including BIM;
Have experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities or similar specialist applications.
