Principal Traffic Signals Engineer: 2 months contract; rate c£45.0. Medway

The Role:
Principal Traffic Signals Engineer; to lead the day to day operation of the traffic signals and telematics section within the Traffic Management team, with responsibility for:

To lead on the design and supervision of new and modified traffic signal sites and installations to improve the operational efficiency of the highway network.

Duties will involve:
Maintaining traffic signals, other telematics and Intelligent Transport Systems installations across Medway.
Management of traffic signal and telematics contracts, ensuring that contract requirements, conditions and performance are met.
Technical support to the UTMC (Urban Traffic Management and Control) system and remote monitoring systems managing telemetry.
Management and supervision of technical staff, consultants and development of junior posts.
Assisting the wider highways and streetworks team with project input and document checking of roadworks.
Assist in managing the Council’s Highway network in line with its corporate objectives and legal requirements.

The Candidate:
You will be an experienced Traffic Signals Engineer with recent experience in the modelling and optimisation of traffic signal installations including the use of software packages such as Linsig, UTC/SCOOT and Transyt. 
Extensive recent experience in the design, installation, maintenance and operation of traffic signals and UTMC systems (including fault reporting management systems) and protocols.
Degree in a relevant field essential.
Project management experience essential.
Excellent communication, negotiation, consultation and influencing skills tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.
Ability to build sound and productive working relationships with colleagues, partners and staff groups and engage others in a credible, persuasive way.
