Principal Welding Engineer – to £40.0/hr – 12mth contract - Plymouth

The Role:
Principal Welding Engineer to join a Welding Design section that provides technical expertise and support to all projects across a Dockyard and wider business. Work load includes providing welding engineering support on structural and pipework across surface fleet and submarine platforms and facilities.
This is a 12-month contract to provide subject matter expertise and technical management across the business. 
The purpose of the role is to allow existing staff to focus on specific development projects, while the Principal Welding Engineer continues to provide welding support to project and production. 

Duties: 
As Principal Welding Engineer you will be responsible for the technical output of a team of experienced welding engineers. The team’s activities include; the development and authorisation of technical welding instructions, weld procedure development, review of sub-contractor welding management systems and procedures, validation of welding consumables. 
You will also have the opportunity to work with junior members of the team to develop their technical and management development. 

The Candidate: 
You will be an experienced Welding Engineer and will have at least five years’ experience in a welding engineering role at a similar Level. You will be at expert level in welding with metallurgy knowledge and its application to ship, submarine or offshore structures and systems.

You will be degree qualified in relevant engineering discipline and will have in addition the following:  
• TWI Diploma in Welding Engineering or equivalent i.e. MSc in Welding Engineering 
• International/European Welding Engineer 
• Chartered Engineer

You will have excellent Communication skills with an ability to be concise when communicating complex technical information. 
You will ideally have experience working with ISO, AMSE and Defence Standards within a nuclear dockyard environment however candidates with strong marine/offshore background maybe considered. 

The following qualifications are desirable: 
• CSWIP 3.1 Visual Inspection 
• PCN Level 2 in Radiographic Interpretation
