The Power T&D Strategic Business Unit work with electricity transmission and distribution network owners and operators to provide technical engineering solutions.
With experience and expertise across the full spectrum of the electricity grid, including overhead lines, cabling and substations, we deliver a range of proactive and reactive services which support a reliable and safe supply of power flowing to millions of homes and businesses.
From scoping and feasibility, to design, construction and on-going maintenance, our in-house experts, flexible resources and industry-leading innovations support clients in the development of some of the world’s most ambitious power transmission and distribution projects.
An opportunity has arisen for a capable and competent Engineering Project Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, passionate individual who has an interest in engineering and project management.
The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for on time delivery of the design management and engineering governance of Utilities Engineering projects, from initial opportunity, through bid development and contract negotiation, mobilisation and delivery, and finally project completion.
They form a critical part of the project delivery team and own the delivery of the engineering solution for their respective project(s). Engineering Project Managers are expected to work closely with the Sales Lead and manage a variety of internal and external stakeholders through Bid Development. They will work closely with the technical team to ensure resource capability and availability for their project following successful handover and throughout the Project Delivery phase.
Accountabilities:
Represent Design Engineering at the bid and tender stages of the lifecycle.
Full responsibility for project delivery of the design solution– on time and on budget.
Managing a team of indirect reports.
Scope and Technical change management.
Monthly project reporting.
Continuous improvement - seeking opportunities to deliver safer, better, faster and more profitably.
Technical Input to contract negotiations.
Interface and stakeholder management (internal and external).
Producing and maintaining key project documents.
Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty Governance and customer requirements.
The candidate (Person Specification)
Education
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (BENg/BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering or higher preferable).
MSc in Project Management (Preferable) or demonstrable experience.
Experience
5 years Project leadership at a management level, delivering a range of projects from standard to complex projects in an engineering environment.
Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
Lead teams to deliver programs safely, on time, on budget and to a high quality.
Ability to interface with external stakeholders.
Good technical grounding, experience and engineering delivery in a relevant discipline (preferred but not essential) .
Experience of working in highly regulated industries.
