Senior NDT Engineer – c6mths + Contracts – to£65.0/hour Ltd – Plymouth
Key Skills: ISO 9712 Level 2, NDT ISO 9712 PCN Level 3 Radiography, NDT ISO 9712 PCN Level 3 Ultrasonic Testing.


The Role: 
Senior NDT Engineer X 2 required to work as part of a team. You will be responsible for the development and review of NDT procedures & written instructions, ensuring compliance to all associated standards. Auditing of NDT sub-contractors and surveillance/trade-tests of Babcock personnel will play a significant part of the role.
The department’s workload continues to increase due to the Authorities expanding demands such as life extension packages on submarine platforms (North & South), the increased number of warship packages and the reliance on technical support as examination & approval authority. There is significant focus within the department to ensure NDT compliance and quality is maintained throughout Devonport, as well as having tight control over Babcock’s external NDT supply-chain. The department also has a requirement to conduct activities with ALARP principles, thus there is a drive to support R&D to reduce Radiography wherever practicable as well as general technological advancements of the departments NDT capability. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 
To manage and control the diverse activities of the Babcock (Devonport) NDT Engineering & Compliance group, both on and offsite to ensure product safety is maintained. As part of a team, you will be responsible for the development and review of NDT procedures & written instructions, ensuring compliance to all associated standards. 
Auditing of NDT sub-contractors and surveillance/trade-tests of Babcock personnel will play a significant part of the role. You will be required to provide expert technical advice and support to NDT Production, Platform Production MoD & Babcock Design/Technical Authority for tasks such as: equipment compliance, running toolbox-workshops, SoW/technical specifications, NDT technique development, quality assurance, NDT standards interpretations & updates. 
From time-to-time you may be required to package manage NDT tasks and NDT personal both on and offsite. In-addition you may also be required to design, undertake and manage NDT R&D initiatives. 

The Candidate:
You will be a Senior NDT Engineer ideally educated to HNC level in an Engineering discipline
You will have an in-depth knowledge of naval platform pipe systems/structures, the materials from which they are constructed and how they have been constructed. Extensive knowledge of NDT processes and their application. Comprehensive understanding of applicable NDT Defence Standards, British Standards, DGS, Lloyds Rules and Babcock In-house design specifications. Good communication skills and the ability to manage the departments NDT resource to ensure various project key dates and milestones are met. 
Significant experience of conducting NDT examinations in the Welding & NDT environment of Ship/Submarine/Workshop facilities at both ISO 9712 Level 2 & Level 3 NDT operator. Experience in Nuclear Plant, working within the Submarine Business Unit, working within the radiological industry as a radiographer and in people management. Experience with dealing with NDT sub-contractors as well as the MoD Design Authority. Experience in producing, auditing & reviewing NDT procedures, written instructions and process standards. Experience in interpreting and applying relevant NDT standards. Experience in conducting and managing NDT Research & Development initiatives. 
The role of the Senior NDT Engineer is a Nuclear Implicated Post and all applicants must be willing to become classified radiation workers. 
Candidates must have the following: 
Multi discipline NDT ISO 9712 PCN Level 3 qualifications in techniques such as: VT, MT, PT, ET, UT, RT, ToFD & PAUT is required. 
Specifically, NDT ISO 9712 PCN Level 3 Radiography in the Castings product sector. 
Specifically, NDT ISO 9712 PCN Level 3 Ultrasonic Testing in the Forgings product sector. 
Professional recognition & membership is desirable.

Note: Successful candidates will need to either have SC Level Security Clearance or be able to obtain BPSS (Base Line Security Standard) checks.
