The Client / Role:
Babcock is the UK’s leading engineering support services organisation and employs more than 34,000 people around the world. At the Devonport site Babcock operates the largest Naval Dockyard in Western Europe where we provide engineering support to surface ships and nuclear submarines. 
The Welding Design section provides technical expertise and support to all projects across the Dockyard and the wider business. Workload continues to increase due to a growing demand for welding engineering support and development projects on structure and pipework across the surface fleet, submarine platforms and facilities. 

The purpose of the role is to allow existing staff to focus on specific development projects, while the Senior Welding Engineer continues to provide welding support to project and production through the running of PQRs to BS EN ISO 15614. 
The team’s activities include: the development and authorisation of technical welding instructions; weld procedure development; review of sub-contractor welding management systems and procedures; and validation of welding consumables. 

The Candidate:
You will be an experienced Welding Engineer.
Ideally you will have:
Bachelor degree, with Honours, in relevant engineering discipline 
TWI Diploma in Welding Engineering or equivalent i.e. MSc in Welding Engineering 
Incorporated/Chartered Engineer 
Experience working with ISO, ASME and Defence Standards with a nuclear dockyard environment. 
You will have an expert level of welding and metallurgy knowledge and its application to ship and submarine structure and systems. 

Desirable qualifications:
CSWIP 3.1 Visual Inspection 
PCN Level 2 in Radiographic Interpretation 
International/European Welding Engineer
