Overview:
Wilde Recruitment Ltd are working along side a local consultancy in order to recruit a Traffic Engineer on a 12month contract in Chatham ME4.
As a Traffic Engineer your duties and responsibilities will include:
The Council’s Transport and Parking Service would like to engage the services of an experienced engineer to help us identify and deliver a range of traffic management, road safety and sustainable transport schemes. 

Reporting to the Council’s Transport Engineering Manager and relevant Team Leaders, the engineer will work closely with colleagues in these teams to develop ideas and concepts, and prepare project briefs for the Council’s Highway Design Engineers, or a consultant design engineer, to take forward. The successful candidate will also take the role of client lead for these projects, overseeing the design process, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, managing the scheme budget, and reporting progress at regular intervals.

The contract will be for a 12 month period, though the Council may wish to offer a 6 month extension to the contract term subsequent to this. The Council will inform the successful consultant of the opportunity for the 6 month extension period a minimum of four weeks prior to the end of the initial 12 month contract term. The Council reserve the right not to offer the 6 month extension. 

Attendance at the Council’s headquarters at Gun Wharf (ME4 4TR) may be required and frequency will be discussed with the successful consultant prior to commencement. Site visits in Medway will be required, and the successful candidate will need to also be available for regular meetings and project discussions on Teams. 

2. REQUIREMENT

Specific requirements for the candidate are set out below:
Senior Engineer with extensive experience of working in a transport, traffic, and safety engineering environment and working on network improvement schemes.
Good knowledge of local and national design standards and technical procedures.
Sound knowledge of the principles of ‘Manual for Streets’ and the importance of incorporating quality public realm within transport schemes.
Experience of project management and delivery of traffic/ safety engineering and sustainable transport capital projects and schemes.
Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) and Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) experience.
Excellent understanding of Traffic Signs Manuals, TSRGD and Traffic Management requirements.
In depth knowledge of developing and producing designs for traffic management, pedestrian and cycle movements.
The ability to draft initial design drawings using Autocad would be welcomed, as part of the development of the project brief.
Demonstrable ability to analyse and interpret varied and complex information or situations, including road safety data, traffic and pedestrian/cycle surveys and modelling.
Developed communication skills with the ability to present complex and/or sensitive information in an understandable way, using a variety of methods across a range of audiences.

Typical work streams for the successful candidate will include:

Investigation of requests for changes to the highway.
Critical review of existing infrastructure.
Project concepts and initiation.
Assessment of proposed Traffic Regulation Orders.
Project brief preparation.
Oversight of scheme development, acting as Client.
Consultation.
Budgeting management.
Progress reporting.
